Upcoming changes in the RoHS-Directive on July 21st, 2021

On this date, new material guidelines in the European RoHS directive are expected to come into force. The exemption for the use of up to 4% lead in copper alloys is to be phased out from July 21, 2021 according to the new directive. This also affects cable glands made of brass. Applications to extend the exemption period are currently pending. It has not yet been clarified whether these applications will be granted. What is certain, however, is that lead has been classified as a “particularly worrying” material under the REACH Chemicals Ordinance and is therefore very likely to be banned soon.
